Franchisees are part of a Cornish family legacy stretching back around 30 years to a small butcher's shop selling premium local meat. It was in this shop that Morris Pasties was born and from which the first pasties, baked to a secret local recipe, were sold. Today, the family is known locally for baking "the finest pasties in Cornwall" (according to The Daily Telegraph) and is now bringing a taste of Cornwall to the rest of the UK through its franchised shops. Morris Pasties has developed a shop concept catered to the fast food market but maintaining its core values. "Our pasties are made in the traditional way," confirms Managing Director Chris Morris. "We source the finest Cornish meats and vegetables from local farmers so all ingredients have full traceability and all pasties are hand-layered and hand-crimped." Franchisees are not expected to make the specialist pasties themselves, as experience has shown that pasties cook best from frozen, so the baking process has been simplified to achieve easy, consistent results. A larger factory equipped with modern production facilities is scheduled to open this year to help meet the growing demand for Morris Pasties. Premium soups, speciality ice creams and sandwiches created by Michelin-starred consultant chef Nathan Outlaw complement traditional pasties, with fair-trade organic coffee, various freshly baked morning goods and pastries completing a range of products designed to give maximum profitability to franchisees across the network. It was Morris Pasties' dedication to upholding its family values that initially appealed to Sunidha Picha, who launched her franchise in April. From the moment she read about the opportunity in The Franchise Magazine she knew it would be a real winner in High Wycombe where she had observed there were few places to eat. "Morris Pasties is a family-run business with a long history," says Sunidha. "Chris and Alison Morris are friendly, down-to-earth people and I knew from the first meeting that I would be able to phone them at any time for support." Morris Pasties' philosophy is to support franchisees every step of the way and the franchise package reflects this. Franchisees receive support in gaining premises approval and a combination of in-store and classroom training covering product knowledge, baking techniques, administration procedures, marketing strategies and corporate standards. To help launch the new business, a member of the Morris Pasties team will visit new franchisees to assist with marketing the business and supporting them on a one-to-one level. Ongoing support is provided in the form of training, development seminars, telephone assistance, email support and an intranet service. "The training was well-paced and flexible," adds Sunidha. "I was given a guided tour of the production facility, which has given me the confidence to talk with customers about the pasty production process. It also covered the day-to-day running of the shop, procedures, serving customers and hands-on practical experience. The reassurance of ongoing support was one of my reasons for choosing a franchise and I know that if I need further advice Morris Pasties will be there to help." Sunidha reports a positive level of interest in her shop, which she accredits to the quality of the products and the fact that every pasty comes with a smile. "If you genuinely believe in the product, the smile comes naturally." She concludes: "The future is really exciting and when this shop succeeds I will definitely open a second. I'm very happy with the business so far and positive that joining Morris Pasties was the right decision." Morris Pasties is looking to share its business opportunity with motivated team players, willing to work hard and committed to providing high quality products and customer service. People who fulfil these criteria will become part of a legacy steeped in Morris family tradition and history, with exceptionally strong values.
